The initial focus of the company is to develop technology solutions which will lower cost, increase performance and extend lifetime of PEM fuel cell technologies. More broadly, the company is focused on developing high performance materials and components that form critical parts of hydrogen fuel cells, electrolyzers, proton pumps and hydrogen storage solutions.
Incorporated in 2021, the foundational technology behind Clenersys has come from the founders' deep understanding and application of nanocarbon materials. Building on a strategic partnership with Nano-C - an advanced nanocarbon engineering company spun out of MIT - the team identified unique solutions for fuel cell applications. Incubated within Nano-C until 2022, Clenersys is emerging from stealth mode to accelerate its development in line with rapidly increasing demand for cost effective green hydrogen technologies.
As an advanced materials and chemistry company, Clenersys views major global builders of hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers as customers for its advanced components. Clenersys welcomes explorations with development partners and OEMs including metallic bipolar plate manufacturers, fuel cell and electrolyzer stack builders and system integrators.

Carries nearly twenty years of industrial experience with the research and development of advanced materials and their applications. As an associate of Nobel laureate, late professor Richard Smalley, made key contributions to the fundamental advancements on nanotube dissolution, nematic phases and their derivative forms. Inventor with 55 issued US patents and several dozen foreign counterparts including key Clenersys technologies. Holds PhD in Materials Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
As the senior business leader, Darren brings in more than twenty years of experience monetizing advanced materials in energy storage and electronics from R&D to commercialization through global technology partnerships. Previous experiences at E Ink (displays), MC10 (flexible electronics) and Boston Power (batteries). MBA from Boston University.
Stan Practiced at Mintz Levin for 39 years prior to joining Nano-C as General Counsel. He carries extensive experience with complex commercial agreements, technology transfer, debt and equity financing transactions for privately-held companies. Holds a B.A. from Harvard College (cum laude) and J.D from Georgetown University Law Center (cum laude).
A mission critical fuel cell IP portfolio forms one of the major strength of Clenersys. The portfolio includes four distinct families of utility and methods patents covering the CORE(TM) and PRIME(TM) technologies allowed in the USA. A total of more than two dozen international counterparts of the same have been allowed in major industrial destinations including Japan, China, Korea, Canada, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Spain and Czech. A portfolio of IP related to nanocarbon inks and coatings further supports the main IP. Clenersys also holds valuable IP in the form of proprietary know-how related to the structural and electrochemical characterization of nanostructured carbon coatings on metals.
